Charles Deemer stated that "The educational system is undeniably rigid." The learning system in universities are not what we should expect. Our view is of the teacher giving a long lecture while the students pretend to listen and take notes. Charles Deemer points out that education involves both the student and the teacher. A strong relationship between the two result in much higher learning abilities. The teachers shouldn't control the students, yet they should guide them and push them along. Move the students out of their comfort zone. It is not only the teachers responsibility, but the students need to strive. Students have grown to be lazy and just barely passing the class to move on with their goals. They need to participate and put some personal thought into their work. The students and teacher need to work together to improve our educational system.
Charles Deemer supports his idea of the educational system needing improvement throughout the selection. He states what Universities are doing incorrectly, but also the main points they need to accomplish to improve. He focuses on the teachers roles, as well as the students roles. He sets his goals and expectations of them, and explains how to retrieve them.
